The Mirror and the Couch: Lacan
in Dialogue with Other Schools
Presented
by: Yeshim Oz, MS,
LPC, &
Mindy Duncan,
PhD
|
What does it mean to say that
the unconscious is structured like a language? How does desire take shape through the Symbolic order? This seminar offers an accessible
introduction to key ideas in Lacanian psychoanalysis, including the mirror stage, the registers of the Imaginary, Symbolic, and Real, and
Lacan’s reformulation of subjectivity and desire. Participants will explore how Lacanian theory converges with—and sharply diverges from other
psychoanalytic schools. Through didactic overview and interactive discussion, attendees will have the opportunity not only to understand
fundamental Lacanian concepts, but to test them against their own theoretical commitments and clinical experience.

LEARNING
OBJECTIVES:
After
attending this session, participants should be able to:
1. Describe three
core ideas in Lacanian psychoanalysis.
2. Compare and
contrast ideas from the Lacanian school with other schools of psychoanalytic thought.
